ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF COMPETITIVENESS ON ECONOMIC SECURITY

A B S T R A C T

The purpose of the research is to identify the mechanisms through which a country’s level of competitiveness affects economic security indicators, to analyze the manifestations of this relationship at both micro and macro levels, and to empirically substantiate how increased competitiveness contributes to national economic security.

The methodology of the research is based on a mixed-method approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative methods. A panel regression model was used for empirical analysis of panel data, with a comparative framework across Azerbaijan, Turkey, Poland, and South Korea. Institutional and SWOT analyses were also applied, and the statistical correlation between competitiveness and economic security indicators was determined through empirical data.

The practical importance of the research - the research findings can be applied in economic policy-making, especially in developing balanced strategic approaches between competitiveness and national security. The empirical evidence also provides practical policy recommendations for promoting competition-based development models, optimizing export strategies, and enhancing governance efficiency in Azerbaijan.

The results of the research - the study revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between a country’s competitiveness level and its economic security indicators. According to the panel regression analysis, a one-point increase in the competitiveness index leads to an average rise of 0.42–0.5 points in the economic security index. Moreover, institutional efficiency and innovation investments were identified as key factors strengthening this relationship.

The originality and scientific novelty of the research - the scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that competitiveness indicators were empirically examined for the first time within the framework of national economic security, and the relationship between the GCI and ESI indexes was supported by practical evidence. The study proposes a conceptual approach in which competitiveness is considered not only a driver of economic growth but also a structural component of national security.
