A B S T R A C T

The purpose of the research is to identify the interdependence between production efficiency in the agricultural sector and the indicators of the sector’s foreign trade, to analyse the socio-economic consequences of adverse effects arising in foreign trade, and to propose scientifically grounded recommendations for the development of effective economic policy in this area.

The methodology of the research – the preparation of the article employed methodological approaches to selecting efficiency indicators of agricultural production, theoretical frameworks concerning the regulation of foreign trade in agricultural products, as well as statistical analysis, graphical presentation, generalisation, and logical reasoning methods.

The practical importance of the research lies in determining the potential impact of foreign trade on the development of the agricultural sector, assessing the current state of production efficiency indicators, identifying challenges related to improving these indicators, analysing socio-economic conditions, and defining priority directions for regulating the foreign trade of agricultural products.

The results of the research include an analysis of the dynamics of the gap between import and export of agricultural products, an assessment of price and structural characteristics, the identification of key problems based on a comparative analysis of profitability indicators in agricultural production by production factors, and the presentation of main directions for addressing these problems.

The originality and scientific novelty of the research are reflected in the systematic evaluation of factors influencing the current state of foreign trade in agricultural products based on production and sales efficiency indicators, as well as in the proposal of new scientifically substantiated approaches aimed at reducing import dependence and improving export performance.
