Heydar Aliyev, who played an exceptional role in the development of the Azerbaijani people and economy both during the Soviet period and after independence, and who was one of the most powerful personalities of his time, successfully used the qualities of a true leader and mobilized the government of the republic and all administrative structures to eliminate the backwardness in the economy.

Independence Day is the brightest day in the history of Azerbaijan. Our people are celebrating state independence, moving forward on the glorious path of national indepen-dence, even though it is difficult. The years of independence are years of self-awareness and self-affirmation for our people.
