The article deeply studies the theoretical and methodological foundations of sustainable land use formation. The evolution of approaches to the interpretation of sustainable development has been analysed. The conceptual apparatus of the studied issue has been improved and the author's interpretation of sustainable land use has been suggested as a way of using land, which allows to integrate the interests of present and future generations of rural communities in terms of social, economic and environmental components at local, regional and state levels. The formation of sustainable land use is considered through the prism of the basic laws of nature and economy: the basic economic law, the law of limited natural resources, the law of optimality, the law of reducing energy efficiency in nature management, the law of the combined effect of natural factors, the law of soil exhaustion (reducing fertility). A logical and semantic model of the essence of components of sustainable development of agricultural land use has been created, which includes conditions that influence the formation of sustainable land use, land composition, types of land use, forms and corresponding methods of land use that provide optimal parameters of ecological and socio-economic functions of territories. Taking into account the principles and methodological requirements of sustainable land use formation, a logical and semantic model of the methodology of sustainable land use formation in Ukraine has been improved, based on structured land use forms with the appropriate rights and systems of land use methods, formed as types (subtypes) of land use.
Keywords: sustainable development, sustainable land use, principles, objectives, logical and semantic model.
